Basic Application Guide for Jotun Demidekk Ultimate

Step 1: Surface Preparation

• Previously Painted Wood - Ensure the surface is clean, dry, and free from loose or peeling paint. Sand glossy surfaces to promote adhesion.
• Weathered Wood - Remove loose fibres and dirt, then apply a primer to improve adhesion and durability.

Step 2 - Priming

• For new wood, apply Jotun Visir Clear Primer before or immediately after installation to protect against moisture and fungi.

Step 3 - Application

• Conditions - Ensure temperatures are above 5°C and that there is no risk of condensation or rain until the coating is dry.
• Methods - Suitable for brush, roller, or airless spray application.
• Coats - Apply two to three coats, depending on wood porosity and exposure conditions.

Step 4 - Drying and Curing

• Touch Dry - 2 hours at 23°C.
• Recoatable - 8 hours, depending on humidity and temperature.
• Full Cure - 2–4 weeks, depending on environmental conditions.

Q. Can Demidekk Ultimate be applied over existing paint?

A. Yes, but the surface must be clean, dry, and well-adhered. Light sanding or washing with a degreaser will help ensure strong adhesion. If the existing paint is flaking, it must be removed before applying Demidekk Ultimate.

Q. Is a primer necessary before applying Demidekk Ultimate?

A. For bare wood, it is recommended to use Jotun Visir Clear Primer, which enhances adhesion and protects against rot and fungal growth. If repainting over existing coatings, a primer is not always required but can improve adhesion.

Q. How many coats should be applied?

A. A minimum of two coats is recommended. For rough or highly absorbent wood, a third coat may be beneficial for extended durability.

Q. What is the expected coverage rate?

A. Demidekk Ultimate covers approximately 10–12 m² per litre on planed wood and 7–10 m² per litre on rough-sawn wood

Q. Can Demidekk Ultimate be applied in cold weather?

A. Yes, but it should not be applied in temperatures below 5°C or in conditions where condensation or frost may occur.

Q. How should tools be cleaned after use?

A. All application tools should be cleaned immediately with water to prevent paint drying in the bristles or spray equipment.

Q. Is Demidekk Ultimate resistant to mildew and fungi?

A. Yes, it contains advanced mildew-resistant additives, preventing unsightly fungal growth and extending the lifespan of the paint.

A. Yes, airless spray application is recommended for large surfaces, ensuring a smooth and even coat.

A. Thinning is not usually required, but for spray applications, it can be thinned with water up to 10% if necessary.
