Basic Application Guide

For more information on applying Jotun Pioner topcoat please see our detailed application guide here

Step 1 - Surface Preparation

  • Pioner topcoat can be applied over a range of primers or existing Pioner coats.
  • Ensure surfaces are clean, dry, and free from contaminants.

Step 2 - Primer Application

Step 3 – Mixing and thinning

  • As a single-component product, Jotun Pioner Topcoat requires thorough stirring before application.
  • In hot or windy conditions, you may also want to consider adding up to 10% thinners to compensate for increased evaporation.  Jotun Thinner No.7 should be used

Step 4: Application Conditions and Methods

  • Temperature - Apply when ambient and surface temperatures are between 10°C and 30°C.
  • Humidity - Ensure relative humidity is below 85% to promote proper curing.
  • Brush - Suitable for small areas and touch-ups.
  • A roller can be used
  • High-Pressure Airless Spray - Recommended for large areas

Step 5 - Drying and Recoating

  • Surface Dry - Approximately 2 hours at 23°C.
  • Number of coats will depend on application method.  We recommend that 2 coats are applied if using a brush or roller
  • Minimum Recoat Interval – Provided the surface is clean & dry there is no time limit between coats.

Step 6 - Cleanup

Clean tools and equipment immediately after use with Jotun Thinner No. 7 or SML Xylene Thinner.
